Well all you guys need to keep in mind that efficiency of operation translates to output power.

All of that jazz that matches final up with driver has to do with this.

Impedance matching as well, which translates to efficiency.

A cobra 148 already has a 2sc1969 final in it. So changing it out was a waist of time. Other then that, those finals will functionally replace discontinued transistors. Doesn't mean they are superior and will yield better results, just that they will mount, operate and survive mobil RF applications....

The same pricipal behind the super mod kit for all other radio would apply here.

Get at the driver. If it uses some form of regulator, then you have to take the eportish type of approach.

Send me your address and I'll mail you some. You have to use the real thing, because they are thermaly conductive.

They electrically isolate, and thermally couple. Without the right shit, your final will melt down.

You have to make sure your screw that holds the final to the heatsink is insulated too. It has a little bushing that goes on the shaft and seats on the head of the screw.

Buy your self a linear instead. cobra 29 and a 300-350 watt linear will walk all over a connex.

Well, besides the power, it would be better, unless your trying to get into ssb and what not.

2950 would be better then a connex.

LMAO. Those are insulators. And yes you need to use them. The back of the transistor is metal, and it's common with the center leg of the transistor. Is your power supply producing voltage. Not on short circuit protect. Or bown fuse.

Check the DC resistance accros the hot and ground pin with the switch turned on.

You have ground loop problems. You're getting your power ground through your coax. Means you antenna is grounded well, which is good.

If not, it sounds like you lifted a trace somewhere. The fact that the old final doesn't work either is a good sign.

Using both is easy, Either use a relay to switch between the two or. Or co-phase them. You'd have to use a delay cable feedlin though to get it right. Like an extra 1/2 wave length of the opertaing freq. in coax.

Just reverse engineer it. Draw your own digram. You know which way it's suppoed to be. the little notch in the plug. Then label where the wires go on the board. So just make the wires attach to the right spot with out the board.

Well you can pull some ceramic caps and switch some around when you do the 1969. But it's a drop in mod. Unless you're getting 40 watts PEP easily out of your rig with the ERF 2030 it's allot of work. But, there is no more right way with either so it's up to the guy who's willing to experiment with ...
