I did some more searching and think I found out what's wrong. Radio has been peaked. According to dxzone, this will cause my radio to squeal thru a hardwired talkback circuit. would you agree that to solve the problem I need to cut a jumper wire on the board?? Thanks for getting back to me on this! :D

Radio seems to work fine until I plug in a remote speaker, Then it howls to no end! Have tried 3 different speakers and it does the same with each. Using a ASTATIC 636 mike.
