I use a DOSY it has settings for each of these and if you run power you can usually find one that will get up to you power level pretty reasonable

roadking 56 or factory are the best ways to go I have found that when you use an astatic sometimes you get a low pitched squel and it only seems to be on cobra 25 or 29's

As a truck driver I can tell you from experiance the only true way to find the good radio shops is to get in the area and ask on channel 19

The 50 watts should get you 5 or 6 miles as the crow flies.
My question is did you have a modulator kit installed in your radio because if not you may not be swinging enough to cause the linear to push its peak power which will actually be around 40 - 42 watts

GROUND GROUND GROUND

As A truck Driver myself I can tell you there is no such thing as to much ground I had this problem with a Volvo 770 and had to drill a hole under my bunk and install a ground to the frame from experiance try and find any other electrical ground on the frame and ground to it or as close as possible....

thanks Warlord I checked it and added 4 pills 2 more 100 watts and 2 50 watts the linear is now producing 600 peak watts and when I test it with my Galaxy DX959 With my modulator kit turned on I'm swinging 775 - 800 watts depending on wheter I'm on AM or SIDEBAND

I was recently given a Cobra 29 NW ST and am having problems with it jumping SWRs even when I tested it on my meter. the radio has had the speaker removed a connex board added it has been peaked and tuned also. the former owner informed me that when he had the radio hooked up it was over modulating....
