Rick, I have just done the Clarifier mod the way you described except for R175- change to 1K. Just cause I dont have any on hand and will have to wait till tommorrow for the shops to open. The clarifier still slides great and I can now get it on frequency. What is R175 for? Does it have to be change...

Yes the regulator is getting hot when in RX. How do I check if those caps are leaking? I still cant find TP1. I found this in the cobra 148 with no problems but in this grant I cant. Rick already said to use pin 1 instead of pin 3. Pin 1 runs a constant 8volts, so the answer to your question is YES. Use pin 1.

Rick, with the clarifier mod your way. You use just the red wire and not the orange. Why do all the other mods use the orange 1 as well.

Rick, what is the difference from pin 1 & 3
Pin 1 is Vout-0= voltage output
Pin 3 is Vref... what is Vref???

I`m looking at the pdf file for the MB3756 and I dont see anything about Vref- pin 3.

Thanks for that guys, I was looking at the DX99V. Will look into it a little more. I was thinking of the 959 just cos its on the cheap side and the fact that it would look nice with all blue or green leds.

I would have to say "on, off, on"
switch up 10kc up
center off (normal freq)
switch down 10kc down.

but wait for a few replies as I could be wrong as I have not done 1 of these yet. But it sounds pretty right to me.

I have seen this else where before. I wouldn`t recomend them to anyone, but I will end up getting one for myself to have a fiddle with. Maybe we could make some improvements to the unit and make them worth having.

well i have a friend that owns one and he is for ever whining about it, and as for modifiaction eg channels. there not as good as the older ones. Not to say that it also has a rci8719 chip that is crap.

best you look around, I`m in Australia and I have just purchased a older style 148 for just over $100 and thats including postage from th US. There are plenty of them going around, save your hard earned money and get yourself an older style. Alot more reliable. Do more reading on the newer style one...

just my opinion, your better off and waiting till you can find a good older style Cobra 148GTL. From what I hear the newer ones aren`t all that good.

But like I said, thats what I hear and also just my opinion.
