Cobra 2000 GTL, Frequency counter does not work

Post by Exit_Thirteen »

Heya folks,

Got another Cobra 2000 GTL in recently that has a frequency counter problem.

This is the PC-497AB main board, frequency counter board PC-370AB 1/3.

The frequency counter stays at 12.0000 MHZ when the radio is turned on. The clock part seems to function okay.

I replaced the whole frequency counter "module" with another unit, it worked fine for a week, then did the exact same thing, it also now reads 12.0000 MHZ with the radio on. The radio itself works fine, no issues there.

I read somewhere that the fault could be in the 5.7V 1/2 watt zener diode in the counter unit (D528) and replacing D528 with a 5.7V 1 watt zener diode will solve the issue. Anyone else had any success with this?

I like this radio, it works very well, would like to see about getting the counter to function again. Any help is most appreciated. Thanks!
