hey rick please help on this galaxy 88 freq drift please

Post by johndoe »

Radio Make and Model: galaxy 88
PCB Number:
PLL Number:
Test gear available: vom,watt meter,dummy load,some electronics knowledge,soldering station.
Symptoms: cold weather drift

What is working: everything

What has been tried: resoldered one crystal so far

Did it suddenly happen ?: got it this way
Anything else that may be of help?: hey rick ,you seem very knowledgeable so i,m asking for your help on this .i bought a used galaxy 88.its in use in a mobile.its cold outside and i know these radios can drift a little but this is way outta hand .when you first turn it on cold the display will read say 27.187 on ch19...as it warms up it creeps back toward center but will actually pass center slot, when fully warm it will read 27.183 on ch19.i have to keep adjusting the course clarifier to keep it on freq.this is a total of 4kc of drift.this is excessive even for a export.

what i want to know is which crystal should i change out first?to see if its a crystal going bad problem??this chassis has 3 crystals ...a 10.240.....a 10.6975....and a 13.560....which one to start with for this problem???i assume its a crystal problem .

help!!!lol....thanks

thanks for your input .i have already changed the 10.240 crystal, same results .nothing changed .i did redo some areas of solder that could be reached.rick has responded over at his forum with the solution.its a little out my experience so i,m going to live with it until our other radio comes back home.thanks again.
