Palomar Skipper 300

Post by WR954/AK944 »

I have a Skipper 300. It is 1 - 6LF6 driving 3 - 6LF6's. The caps. blew and I replaced them (2 - 450V 67mf to 450V 100 mf and 1 - 25v 1000mf). I also replaced three diodes and both transistors. The relay was rapid firing then the caps and diodes blew. Now the caps hold and I have proper voltage (17V) to the 25V cap. However, I have no power to the operate/standby switch so the amp will not kick. It powers up, the tubes warm up and all else seems to function. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

proper voltage

The two large caps should have a total of 600 to 800 volts . sounds like a miss measurment or take from the low voltage section . on average all tube equipment runs 450 volts or higher on the power tubes . if you are not getting this voltage range than you may still have a power suply issue

I have been working with 2600 on another site on this amp and he has been extremely helpful in assisting me to understand exactly how a tube amp operates and it's operating compnonents. I am now down to replacing 3 items that deal with the pre-amp keying circuit and now understand why and how these component failed. Thank you for your response.
