ranger sdm-1000 mics

Hi I have 2 ranger sdm-1000 mics I picked up and they both seem to have low modulation sitting away from them? But when in front of you like a stock mic they have plenty modulation? I had them in the past and always worked great sitting away from them but these 2 do the same exact thing? Also the wiring from factory is different colors than shown here

They are both wired the same but maybe I'm missing something? Both battery's are 3 v like they are suppose to be too? Thanks.
