Cobra 148 GTL clarifier

I have a new COBRA 148GTL(made in China). I am trying to unlock the clarifier, but I can't find any instructions that make any sense. It says to remove the red wire (on the potentiometer) from the board, and move it to either pin 1 of IC4(MB3756) or the + side of C84. My radio doesn't have an IC4(MB3756), but it does have an IC1(MMB8719). The voice lock pot has two red wires and one black wire. It seems to me that the wire that should be moved would be the one that connects to R44 (the resistor that was removed). In my radio, this wire is black! Can anyone help?
