Does anyone know if you can make a long wire VHF marine antenna from coax or other wire like you can do for cb radios? What would the dimentions be for the wire? Thanks for any help John

Yes you can make a long wire antenna, but it won't be very effective.
VHF marine signals are propagated in the vertical plane - most longwires run horizontally.
At 156MHz, the wavelength is 1.92 metres.
That would be a very short longwire!
