Galaxy 44v Help

Post by marveylus22 »

First of all I would like to thank everyone that contributes to this site especially Rick. You guys have been very helpfull!! :D

Now for my headache. I have no TX or RX on my Galaxy 44v. It did at one point, but I cut r249 and it lasted a bit but finially died out. Also it motor boats on receive. I believe that has something to do with the echo board because it isn`t working. One thing I did notice the audio chip is getting hot. Do you think I fried the audio chip? I have an extra one to change out to, but before doing that I would like a experts opinion before doing the swap. Thank you.

Thanks for the info Rick. I now have receive, and transmit! :D I still have another problem. I fixed the problem with the echo board, but It sounds like a helicopter in my receive, and on transmit. It seems to only happen on 11 meters.I also get 27.185 on 18 instead of 19, and the 10KC switch is not working. Thank you sir for the help. If you have a paypal account I would be happy to kick you back some dough for your knowledge, and help. Thank you sir!

It sounds like the VCO needs adjustment, try readjusting the VCO as the following set the radio to RX Band D 26.965 MHz Fine and coarse clarifier control to centre detent, Connect DC voltmeter to TP2 and adjust L17 for 3.20vdc, now set the radio to 25.615 MHz the voltage at TP2 should be about 2.00vdc, now set the radio to 28.305 MHz the voltage at TP2 should be about 6.00vdc. As for the 10KHz jump check pin 9 of the Binary Adder IC1 it should be about 7.5 to 8.0vdc when the 10KHz switch is on and zero when off, if this is ok check pin 10 it should be about 7.5 to 8.0vdc when the 10KHz switch or off. Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Hey Rick I got the radio working now. I done just about everything to include changing out x1, and still had no results. So I went down and bought me a meter, and started checking volts. Well it all came down to a transistor at tr30 that was bad. It is the Carrier Osc. transistor. Thanks for all your help.
