Galaxy pluto weak recieve

Post by smokinjoe »

I have a Galaxy Pluto that only receives strong signals the radio had just been aligned and didn't show any improvement it has the 360014b board. could one of the receive diodes be shorted or maybe a transistor not shore where to start. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I also checked antenna and coax swr is fine i am using a steel whip. Thanks.

galaxy pluto-weak receive

Post by ramblingman »

hi there,do you have a schematic.you need to take some voltage measurements.i wonder is it your squelch amp shorted.does your radio show strong receive on the s meter during the day with peak skip.or is it weak even on the s meter.if you have good strong signal, example on ch.19 during the day.but yet you cant hear it.it might be your squelch amp shorted.check tr-16 it is the squelch switch.measurments should be like,0.80 on base, and 0.0 on collector, and 0.0 on the emitter.also it could be on the agc bus. 1c-1 is the agc/squelch amp.voltage on the agc amp should be pin 4 should be 8.40 vdc.pin 8 should be 7.04 vdc,pin 9 should be 2.26 vdc,.pin 12 and pin 13 should be 0.30 vdc,.and pin 14 should be 0.60 vdc,.pin 10 should be 1.53 with squelch open and 3.32 with squelch tight.also pin 8 should be 0.68 with no squelch and the 7.04 vdc should be with squelch tight.you might also what to check tr-42 this is your af-pre-amp,its measurements should be 1.33 vdc on the base,.2.08 on the collector, and 0.74 on the emitter.also d-15 and d-16 are your protection diodes for the rf amp tr-17.lift one lead of each and check these two diodes for shorts.measurements for tr-17 should be as follows 2.20 vdc on the base,.8.00 vdc on the collector, and 1.50 vdc on the emitter with the rf gain at max. and with rf gain at min.the emitter should read 3.50 vdc.i hope this helps.....ramblingman
