Galaxy DX959 channel Mods

Post by bullwinkle »

Just wondering if anyone has done this? I did find instructions but not sure on how many switches to install. it says locate wires P6 and P5 in J33 (on the main board below PLL(8719) cut open the wires and install a spst in line with them.
Does this mean 2 switches (one on each wire)?
Also wondering how to operate the radio once the switches are installed.
Please HELP

One switch per wire,

Cut wire on P5 and install a 1 pole like a on/off switch in this line
Cut wire on P6 and install a 1 pole like a on/off switch in this line

to operate radio once installed when both swithes are off the radio is in normal freq. when switch on p5 is on and p6 is off radio is in 26mhz. when p86 is on and p5 is off radio is in high 27mhz. with both switches on radio is in med. 27 mhz. channel 33 to 40 doesnt track they will always be on reg am freq. j33 will be located behind the channel selector on the board. p5 is a yellow wire and p6 is grey. hope this helps it worked great on my galaxy dx949. dx959 is same radio except it has a freq. counter built in

Thanks guys! I'll throw this mod in this weekend and give it a shot. I hope to add a 90w pill box if CBSHOP.com ever actually gets it in the mail. I've got a power supply on its way and my antenna is set pretty close but still needs a little tweeking cause SWR is a little high on the lower band. I'm running the Master Blaster 67" mounted to a telescopic aluminum paint stick with a couple 104" radial wires of high tensile wire . The paint stick and antenna base go to earth ground and the radio is grounded to the house ground. I'm getting out a good 20 miles now with a strong 4 or 5 report with just the radio peaked to 8w and the Dominator Modulator diode installed.
