Heard it before

Post by sh2515 »

Hi

You have probably had this question before lots of times, however I am struggling to find out the information.
I have some PMR 446 motorola t5412 and t5512 radios and they state that they can go upto 3km. I understand that environment effects the distance which they can go, but since all PMR 446 radios have the same specification how are some advertised at 8km range and others only 3km range? Is there a difference or is just advertising? And if they are different what affects the 'range' on a PMR 446 radio?

It sounds like a good way to sale a product. My one better than your one.
Most 446 I have come across have about 3km range, there are some hi powered 446 from China which they say do 6 to 10km.
Rick.

One example I can think of is the new motorola t3 and t5. The t3 is advertised at 5km and the T5 at 6km? Why would it go further?b
