Midland power mods

Post by SinStp »

Does anyone know if you can replace the finals in older radios and get the power gains the cobra 29's are supposed to be getting. I ve got a few old 77-882 , 13-882c , 13-857 and would like to make loud. Would the 1969 be better for these older ones or will it even work

midland power mods

i have a midland 13-879b and it has a variable resistor on the board. it is square, silver,&has a small screw in the center. try adjusting this while using a quality watt meter and using the world famous cb battle cry----------AUDIO!!!! i also turned up the wattage on the internal power supply as this is a base radio. good luck.

Midland power mods

Midland 13-898B "frankenstien special" here... I've heavily modified this rig. So much so, that to explain them all, I would need publishing permission from the web host :D
So I'll stick to the power mods. First off, the best way to add heavy swing is to tweak the tank circuit DOWN , as opposed to UP , to around 1Watt orward to 3Watts --- Then, install a 70-100W amp board inside of it. A cheap 70W kicker is about 54bucks on ebay....
Take the guts out of the amp's box.
Save the heat sink (you'll still need it).

Remove the keyer circuit and wire the relay to the rig's relay in parallel.
If your radio is a base rig like mine, the onboard power supply will no longer be adequate so forgetaboutit --- better yet, REMOVE it for the space and run the rig from a good 15 amp supply.
My frankenstien dead-keys 6W and swangs to 60W. Who needs a 2970? :)

I haven't had stellar audio from any otther mics than turner "super sidekick" and "Plus Three". Don't axe me why, but they simply sound the best on the 13-898b. And i've tried them all.
Apha Hotel Three and I'm backout!
