Modifying a silver rod for operation on 80,40,20 etc

Post by absorbentgnome »

A question about verticals.

I have seen people selling modified CB antenna (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RESONANT-VERTICAL ... dZViewItem) with what looks like additional loading coils placed at the bottom of the aerial inside the bracket.

This seems a good and inexpensive way to get up a vertical that will work on the 80m, 40m or 20m bands, depending on the loading coil used. However some scouting around on the internet has not revealed how to make one i.e. calculating the loading coil turns diameter etc.

Has anyone used anything like this or have any information on how to modify one? Or had success using a silver rod and an antenna matching unit?
