About The Defpom

I am a solo father to two boys, that is the thing I consider most important.

My interests are varied, from CB and Electronics (as most know me), Software Development (not so much these days), Web Development (several projects exist), and more recently Music.

While I have always had an interest in making music, I have only recently decided to pursue it more actively, and have invested some money in buying some decent software and a midi controller keyboard, it is not much, but it is a good start, I feel that I have already made some progress, but I have a lot to learn and intend to publish my work on sites such as SoundCloud, iLike and YouTube as time allows.

The genres that I enjoy are varied, as long as it is a quality sound I will usually like it, I do not like hard core rap or country, even if it sounds good, I also hate the trend towards swearing in mainstream music, the music would be just as good, or even better without it, obviously none of the studio execs have children that want to listen to it...

My favourite group is probably The Prodigy, I have been a fan for a LONG time, but I also like Bjork, Coldplay, Linkin Park, U2, Kings of Leon, Pink, The Feelers, The Chemical Brothers, Dido, Gwen Stefani, Jewel, Katy Perry, Massive Attack, New Order, Nelly Furtado, Norah Jones, The Streets, The Verve.

I am a bit of an audiophile, I appreciate music and good sounding audio systems.

I spent several years doing car shows with my sound off car (I had one of the best cars in the country for a while, I built and tuned the system myself), I was competing in the sound quality section (SQL) not sound volume section (SPL), the SPL side tends to give car audio enthusiasts a bad name, as it tends to annoy others when they drive past, SQL is about making the best sounding system.

Car audio let me learn how to listen, most people never learn to properly listen and hear intricacies in music and sound, tonal balance, staging etc. doing car audio tought me that I too was one of them, and from that point my ability to hear quality started to improve, when I gave up car audio I did lose some of that ability, but now that I am back into something audio related I am once again starting to really hear again.
