You could use an amplifier for your cb. 200 watts would probably be enuff. also make sure that the ant. is tuned first before u start tx with amp. rubbaband man says 2879 that would be 2sc2879. Your reference to 455 would be MRF455. Both of these pills are virtually identical and in practice would deliver very close to the same power in the same circuit. If you are after replacements stick with the '455. The amp could be oscillating at Audio or a lower RF frequency. that could be an easy death 4 rf pills as the power of the oscillations could be easily higher than the ratings of the pills and that combined with bad matching of the circuit impedances and or antenna impedance / reactance at the freque...

A parasitic Oscillation outside the antennas resonance would do this 4 sure.
Plain harmonics such as the second and third, fifth etc. would have to be massive to do that.
You need a tunable RF sniffer to find out what is goin' on or a receiver and turn down RF gain.
