Check for voltage at the final, make sure there is no solder cross conecting any pads. If you say it is tx'ing very weak, it sounds as if the driver is working.

L19 was slightly off, I adjusted it while watching a freq meter and about 1/32 of a turn in and it popped back into freq.
I figured I would leave the post just in case someone else has a similar problem!

Does anyone have an idea where you could hook up a modulation meter to a cobra 148 board? I retrofitted one into a cobra 2000 chassis. all went great and hooked up fine but the mod meter since there isn't a separate one on a 148.

I agree, it sounds like the finals went, These don't use 1969's though, they have dual 2sc-2290's if they are peaked wrong they fry easy. Many were built without any heatsink grease! (Oooppps!!!!) Cobra discontinued the 200 due to a ton of problems with these radios....

I think IC801/802 are on the soundtracker model? This is not a soundtracker model, looks the same as a ltd, two transformers...

2005 Cobra 29 NWST Modulation Problem on TX / PA

Just added the 2030 final to a 2005 Cobra 29 NW ST (PC Board 060-J). However it made no power improvement, Just to be sure, replaced all 3 componets with another set, same results. Have these newer radio been choked down in some other way? Does anyone have an idea?

Thanks for all the help Rick, I found several caps bleeding, after replacing rx was much better. I added a RX receive kit to it and it is at least for now up to snuff. Thanks again!

Replaced them both, Still low by itself, with a pre-amp it pulls in more just not up to snuff.

Pulled and check caps around TR12 replaced one but found no shorts...
I don't have a 10:1 probe, I should make one from your drawings....

I'll replace those and check for shorted caps around them, I just found out that the radio was hooked up backwards and The reverse diode blew, was replaced and supposedly worked after that, he couldn't be sure. Does that change the possibilities of where to look?

Just tried a linear with a pre-amp, RX did improve, had a regular background noise and better reception, still not where it should be....

SSB is the same, D13/14 show.650 D15 .534 D16 .540 Just for the heck of it, fired it up with the 4 diodes removed, same as before.... I dont have any new diodes here but I do have a 2950 parts board here EPTZ 295913Z If you know which diodes I can pull I can try diffrent ones in the 146.... Thanks R...

146 GTL PC-833AD, Local RX (1 mile or less) will peg the meter and audio is clear, however, there is no background noise hardly at all, no needle movement. Just a little static hiss....weak signal (in this case 2 miles away) was crackily, not consistant. Checked alignment, TX was off 2 kc but RX ok ...

I used a 7pf and adjusted it back to freq. Radio works good now, The delta tune was modded already, I put it back to stock, but it still dosen't shift RX, no big deal though, it is on freq. I know many do this mod but I am unsure why as you are... I guess it makes em feel good just to be able to.......

The bottom picture shows where the small black surface mount is missing, jumped by a ceramic cap. all works well except no clarifier(delta tune) change on rx/tx...slide mod was done, cut r112,d18, jump r110, move orange wire to 8volt....

Was that .4 watt or was it supposed to be four watt deak key? I can't tell if that is a period for the previous sentence or not....

If you meant the radio has a Four Watt dead key with no audio or PA audio,

I found a cold solder joint, pin 3 of the audio chip, touched it up and seems to be fine now... OOOPS, spoke too soon when it fades out, I can cool IC 201 (listed as the FM demod) and RX comes back.....Just a bad chip or a bad voltage input? anyone have specs on this? No, it stays up, The power supply holds voltage. I put a cobra 29 beside it and when I key the 2000 the 29 picks it up so I belive the driver is working. Thanks rambling man, i did just that, swapped tr37 with a good unit no change, good radio still works, i noticed the voltage at the final drops from 13.8 to around 6v when keyed....
