Galaxy 33HML problem

Post by zinger827 »

I have a 33hml that wont change power settings from lo-med-high? Stays at same wattage no matter where its switched? I posted a pic of solder side showing 2 wires do not know if factory or maybe part of problem? Thanks.

If this radio has the frequency counter plug in on the back of the radio the two wires go to it and have nothing to do with the power these were installed from factory.

No freq. counter plug on back. Very common board I never seen wires on them before? Probably some kind of mod?

Wires seem to be going to PA jack, I believe its normal for that board.

As for the power issue, there should be at least 2, possibly 3 adjustments for power settings, have you tried to adjust them? Perhaps someone set them the same, so that they did not fry their amp?

I did try to adjust the VRs with no luck. Only the high power VR did anything with the L13 the Lo/Med ones did nothing? Im thinking maybe bad h/m/l switch? Thanks.

If it is stuck on hi power, try changing TR51.

What is the voltage at the Base and Collector of TR51 with the power switch in Low, Mid and Hi?

What is the voltage at the Base TR49 with the power switch in Low, Mid and Hi?

It looks like you did not understand my last question.
If you need help you need answer only the question, you are asked.

What VR have you tried to adjust?

With the voltages, you gave me it was obvious what the fault was.

That why I ask you which VR have you tried to adjust the clue was in the question.

I could have just told you to check for cold solder joint or open circuit VR, but would not help you fault finding in the future.

……..Check voltages tell a thousand truths………
