Superstar 3900el & 2sc1969 question

Post by Damselfly »

Hi guys. Just got a superstar 3900el. I look at the schematic and notice that it uses a 2sc1969 final. According to datasheets the tranny is rated at 18 watts max, yet in my ss3900 manual it says the output power of the radio is 10w am/fm and 21w pep on ssb. If i use ssb regularly, isn't it going to fry the transistor or severely reduce the life of it? Also, in your opinion, is the superstar 3900/3900el a reliable rig? I appreciate all feedback. Cheers.

Thanks Timtim. In addition, i did the idiot thing just to check the peak power out on ssb by whistling into the mic for about 3 secs. The power meter showed 24-25 watts. In your opinion, or anyone else would this have caused any damage to the final 2sc1969 even though it's still working please? Ie - might i of shortened the life of it as it's only rated at 18 watts? Cheers.
