Hi guys ,just done the regular mod on my Grant with the PC-999 board for 3Khz of slide as stated in the info of this mod on the net, does anybody know if or how to increase the amount of slide,Cheers,Shaun
Animal,
You forgot to mention the two varactor diodes D40 and D44 that need changing to ITT410 or same as.
You may find that a 4.7uh coil will do the same job as a 5.6uh.
Quite correct Dave - glad you're paying attention at the back!
You'll find that the extra inductance will also give you more downward shift than up & you'll need to reset the VCO offsets (& probably find that you can't align it correctly with the Coarse control in the center notch position!)
Did you ever manage to perfect that mod for 5kc steps on the Grant by the way - seemed like much better idea than fiddling around with the clarifier & a frequency counter to get the zero's
I now use PIC's instead of an Eprom for that mod, it only needs a 2 pole switch instead of 4 poles with the Eprom.
I've got two Jumbos I'm doing at present with MK2 Cobra 148GTL DX radios being fitted with the 3900 counters and zero switching using a PIC.
Did one the same last year with a 3900 in and sold it for £270.
