hi all. i have just got hold of an old president adams(858 pll) fleabay special which was advertised as having fm and upon recieving it i am now the not so proud owner of a non fm radio ( yes i should know better

), it seems in good order and recieves well on the 555, it has had an eeprom fitted which gives it l/m/h bands. is it possible to have an fm board fitted to be able to use it on uk/eu bands and if so can the eeprom be reprogrammed / modified for the uk 27/81 freq or is it a new eeprom job..(one for dave i think

) thanks,jimmy.

Jimmy,
Yes to both your questions but you wouldn't want to pay for the FM conversion, very expensive on that radio because of the 8MHz crystals instead of 10.695MHz like more modern radios.
The Eprom could be re programmed as long as it's not a once only program Eprom (no window in it). If it's a 2716/32/64/128 or 256 then no problem.
Dave.

Jimmy,
It cost less to buy a side band radio with FM on it than the boards required to covert or add FM.
Keep it as it is, there a good radio for side band use and very very well built.

i know what you mean dave but its one of those should i or shouldnt i things... the radio was a song for what it was and postage makes it more expensive to send back than it cost.as it is i could buy another side bander but i already have enough so pretty pointless. the main point is that i only bought the radio as it was advertised as having fm (i was/am pretty sure they dont but i am open to correction) so it was bought as more a novelty than a need ,if it was advertised correctly i wouldnt have bothered .who needs an am/ssb radio anyway? DOH!! nostalgic collectors..anyway back to it..having listened to a couple of 555 openings it sounds good (classic grant ?),much better than my b/f 148 so its down to the fact of not wanting to put up another antenna , cant be bothered to switch radios should i want to use it and have limited space for them anyway...it may well be better to add the fm option and sod the cost but have a nice looking oneoff radio with a few mods than fire it back on fleabay for the going rate...you know the score dave ..just think of your grant...
thanks,jimmy

I also own a Adams which i would like to convert to FM.
I try to get some information from the guy who sell the Adams on Ebay.

[Edit]
There is a company in Austria
http://www.funkservice.at which build this kit and they have FM-Boards ready to install.
I think, i will give them a try and let the FM-Board install from this company.
Price at the moment is 50 Euro for Board install and adjust.
They have also built the Frequ. Expansionboard like in the ebay Adams.
It is a DDS Board with 3 Bands 5 khz Switch and so on. 40 Euro inkl. install.
