2950DX bit low pwr output?

Hi all!
First of all my apologies for me possibly placing the question in the wrong subforum...
Second of all I would like to thank those responsible for creating this forum and giving me the chance to (hopefully) get an answer to the following issue..
I purchased a Ranger 2950DX and couldn't resist the temptation to align some areas of the radio.
First of all I alligned the receiving part of this radio which made a huge difference in receiving quality and selectivity particular on the SSB.
The only real modification I carried out was the replacement of the two finals (2sc2312's) for two MRF477. This gave a forward swing to.... only 18watts on the FM.
This drove me to replace the first driver transistor for a 2sc1973 which hopfully got the job right, but instead of me expecting around 30/35 watts on the FM I only got 21watts out of this setup: 2sc2714>2sc1973>2sc1266> 2xmrf477.
The same setup as for the Lincoln 2sc1973>2sc1266>mrf477 gave me around 30watts FM and 40watts SSB.
Something tells me that I have to look in the drivers voltage?
All suggestions would be most welcome!
Kind regards,
John
