Test gear available: Digital Multimeter, Frequency Counter
Symptoms: Very low, almost inaudible TX audio

What is working: Everything else.

What has been tried: Adjusted VR7 (ALC) with no change to symptoms

Did it suddenly happen ?: Don't know - just picked it up without any history to it.
Anything else that may be of help?: Came with non-standard mic, which I had to re-wire to suit.

On SSB there is virtually no deflection of the needle (either on the radio itself or on an external power meter) but I can hear the audio when listening on another receiver in the same room.

TX on AM shows 10w output on meter but again, very very low TX audio.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Animal, they come with a mic that has gain adjustment on them, maybe thats a clue for you, unless of course you already knew that!

Tried that today & still sweet FA!

Output must be milliwatts in ssb - the needle just to say moves on the inbuilt & an external meter.

Definitely audio on another receiver when TXing into a dummy load though - I might try another mic to see if that's the problem???

Try turning down the AM TX power to 4W and see if the AM TX audio comes right, 10W is too much, if the power output does not change when the VR as adjusted it gives a clue as to where the problem may be.

Cheers Scott (I should have noticed that I suppose the logic being that there's no room to modulate the carrier at 10w?)

Anyway, adjusted TX output to 4w & re-checked but symptoms are still the same on both AM & SSB

Maybe it's the mic???
