cobra 200 gtl dx power mod

Post by raggatwins »

hi all.
just got my hands on a cobra 200 gtl dx,got all channels 26.065 up, but the power has had a mod on low pwr it,s 25 to 30 watts and on hi it's about 75 to 80 watts rms and pep ssb 150 watt ,having trouble on hi pwr makes the rig sound off Frequency like over driving the mod, but when on low pwr sounds fine, the mike is standard not power mike, allso in low pwr mode the ant warning light shows and the swr on the rig is hi but on the ext swr meter shows 1.1 but when i switch to hi pwr ant light gose out and swr bothe rig and ext are the same,on fm,am hi power works fine.

Sounds like insufficient amperage from your power supply. A larger power supply will do the trick on the muffled audio portion on high power. The SWR portion is related to your antenna and you should test it with some other devices for reference. Try using a friend's radio equipment and meter if you're in doubt as to the accuracy of your own.

peace,

haans :)
